SHI’s revenue up 11.75 percent year over year in the first half 2013

SHI recorded revenue of $2.3 billion in the first half of 2013, representing an 11.75 percent increase year over year. Revenue growth was strong across all business divisions, with the enterprise and public sector rising 4 percent, our international business climbing 21 percent, and the corporate division surging 39 percent year over year.

Demand for products and services, particularly in mobility, storage, and networking, is responsible for much of this increase.

Read the press release we issued this morning for more details.

Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface RT now available through SHI

microsoft surface proEarlier today Microsoft revealed that it is expanding Surface’s sales channels and empowering partners to sell both the Surface Pro and Surface RT. Proudly, SHI is one of the first partners to participate in the program, and we already have begun offering Surface Pro 64 GB, Surface Pro 128GB, Surface RT 32GB, and Surface RT 64GB to our customers.

This announcement is big news for our customers, who previously could obtain all of their Microsoft software and other hardware from SHI but had to go direct to Microsoft if they were looking to equip their employees with the Surface Pro or Surface RT. And we know customers were since “Microsoft Surface” topped the list of failed searches (that is, those that didn’t return any results) on SHI.com last quarter. Now we can help customers procure both of these devices and, as a result, provide a truly integrated Microsoft hardware and software solution for better IT asset management, spend visibility, and volume licensing compliance.

We’re really excited to expand our mobility portfolio. For the first half of 2013, SHI shipped an average of 10,000 tablets per month. With the availability of the Surface, which in May broke into the top five tablets shipped, and the official addition of another top-selling device to our catalog later this month, we’re bound to see those numbers increase.

For questions about pricing and availability of Surface Pro or Surface RT, check your custom catalog on SHI.com or contact your dedicated account team. And keep an eye on the blog for more news about our ever-expanding portfolio of tablets and mobile devices.

VMware vCloud Hybrid Service now available through SHI

VMware introduced its vCloud Hybrid Service yesterday, an Infrastructure-as-a-Service offering that connects and integrates both onsite and offsite IT environments and enables IT to extend their data centers to the cloud. What you might not know is that SHI is one of the first partners to begin offering vCloud Hybrid Service.

One of the greatest benefits that we see is that vCloud Hybrid Service doesn’t force IT departments to reinvent the wheel. The in-house applications and infrastructure in which they have already invested don’t require reconfiguring, and there isn’t any hardware required. It’s a seamless transition.

Of course, there are considerations that will need to be made and we’ll share those with you in the coming weeks as we begin to migrate customers to this hybrid cloud service. If you want to be one of the first, email me at Ed_McNamara@SHI.com.

SHI breaks records with Q1 revenue

SHI is breaking records like it’s our job. It’s not, of course. Our job is to connect you with the technology solutions your business needs. And our latest earnings announcement indicates that we must be doing it right.

SHI posted $1 billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2013, a 15.5 percent increase year over year and our highest first quarter revenue total ever. Not only that, but this is the third consecutive year in which we set a revenue record for the first quarter.

There are a lot of factors that contributed to this growth, and the press release we put out today has them all. Most importantly, though, thanks to our loyal customers and partners for contributing to this success.

SHI honored by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council

We’ve always been proud to be the largest Minority and Woman-owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) in the United States, and the latest recognition in our growing list of accolades helps us broadcast that story to a larger audience.

SHI woman owned businessWe announced today that SHI has been certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). The certification comes as the result of a meticulous business review and site inspection aimed to confirm that the company is at least 51 percent owned, operated, and controlled by a woman or women.

This isn’t news to us — Thai Lee took over SHI in 1989 and has led the company through consistent and impressive record-breaking organic growth ever since. Many of our customers are familiar with our history as well and choose to work with us not only for our wide array of IT solutions and world-class service, but also for our ability to help them enhance their diversity programs.

However, this national recognition by the WBENC opens a number of new opportunities and gives us a good reason to shout it from the rooftops. Find out more about the certification in the press release we issued this morning.

VMware names SHI as SMB and Renewals Partner of the Year

Fourteen months ago, New Jersey Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno helped SHI officially open a new World Headquarters that featured the SHI Cloud data center and plenty of office space for our continued employee expansion. Luckily, the renovated building features plenty of room in the trophy case.

SHI VMware Partner of the YearBecause earlier today, SHI picked up two more pieces of hardware, being named VMware’s SMB and Renewals Partner of the Year at VMware’s Partner Exchange in Las Vegas.

“SHI is honored to accept these awards, which serve as a testament to the strong bonds, support, and growth shared by our two organizations,” said Thai Lee, President and CEO of SHI International in our press release this afternoon. “Over the past five years, VMware has become one of SHI’s most trusted partners and has helped us elevate the level of conversation with customers to focus on more comprehensive and strategic data center solutions. Our relationship with VMware is a true partnership, one that benefits our customers above all else, and we look forward to nurturing that partnership for years to come.”

Driven by customer demand for VMware technologies, SHI’s VMware business has grown an average of 51 percent over the past five years, topping out at just under $200 million in 2012 (when SHI was named VMware Corporate Reseller Partner of the Year).

But more important that revenue growth, VMware technologies are continuously influencing the conversations SHI has with our clients. Last year, two thirds of the corporate customers who purchased VMware through SHI also purchased servers, storage, and networking hardware solutions.

For that, we are very thankful to VMware, and are proud to be named SMB and Renewals Partner of the Year!

SHI is only Dell partner to take home 2 Partner of the Year Awards at Dell World 2012

I’m back in the office this week after spending much of last week in Austin, Texas for Dell World — Dell’s second annual customer and partner event. It was a great chance to meet face-to-face with our customers and demonstrate our ever-strengthening partnership by tossing some SHI footballs to our colleagues at Dell (literally).

DELL PARTNER OF THE YEAR: (Left to right) Greg Davis, Dell Channel Chief; Ryan Ford, Senior Director Sales and Marketing Operations for SHI; Hal Jagger, VP/GM of SHI Corporate Sales; Jim DeFoe, VP of Global Commercial Channel Sales, Dell

In fact, we were the only Dell partner to take home the award in two categories. SHI was named Healthcare Partner of the Year and, for the third year in a row, Direct Marketer Partner of the Year.

We issued a press release Thursday afternoon. Check it out for more info on the awards and additional reactions from yours truly.

And congrats to both the SHI and Dell teams for working together so well to enhance the value we bring our customers, and for making this possible.
