In the first episode of Season 2 of Innovation Heroes, host Peter Bean dives into a question that’s been top of mind for many business leaders this past year: How do you maintain culture in a remote working world?

There has to be a better way than after-work beers and cocktails over video chat. Right?

While 2020 proved IT can be resilient and resourceful when it comes to maintaining productivity and keeping the business running, other gaps have been much harder to close. With in-person happy hours, coffee breaks, and water cooler chats seeming more and more like a relic of the past, how do we build and maintain an office culture that goes beyond video chats and allows colleagues to have meaningful connections?

To find out, Peter meets with Shawn Hewat, the co-founder and CEO of Wavy. With Wavy, Hewat is finding creative new ways to help companies build meaningful, engaging experiences at a distance that promote healthy and purposeful office culture – and better business as a result.

“Businesses said, ‘OK, I’m going to take my Friday beers at happy hour, I’m going to take what we did in the office, and I’m going to bring it online’ – but you can’t build culture in a distributed environment in the same way,” says Hewat.

Listen now to hear what she’s learned in a year of trying to solve this crucial challenge. Plus, Peter breaks down his favorite workplace pranks you can pull from the comfort of your home office, just in time for April Fools.
